Caythorpe Family Estate is a historic farm, orchard, and winery based in Marlborough, where the Bishell family have been caretakers of the original estate for nearly 150 years. Their mission is rooted in heritage: to craft estate-grown wines and orchard produce that represent everything that makes Caythorpe unique.
The organisation’s ambition was to translate five generations of history into a modern e-commerce platform that drives direct-to-consumer sales while preserving the storytelling legacy of the family’s 1876 origins.
We designed and built the Caythorpe Family Estate website to:
- Showcase a heritage-led narrative, balancing the commercial requirements of an online store with rich storytelling sections – "Our Story" and "Our Family" – that highlight how the current generation continues the work started by David Bishell in 1876.
- Highlight the brand's seasonal offering, utilising high-quality imagery and video to promote unique combinations, such as the "Cherry & Wine Gift Boxes" for Christmas, complete with functionality for customers to attach personalised messages.
- Build a seasonal sales engine that handles Caythorpe’s real-world fulfilment complexity, from wine shipping thresholds to gift box configuration and corporate gifting pathways designed for high-volume Christmas ordering.
- Express the Caythorpe brand in a modern digital experience, using immersive motion-led media, editorial page layouts, and mobile-first interactions to make the site feel premium and spacious, while keeping purchase flows and trust cues (such as licensing details) cleanly integrated into the interface.
The Caythorpe Family Estate website embodies the family's dedication to being modern caretakers of a historic land. It balances high functionality requirements, such as unit pricing and shipping logic, with a visual design that allows customers to savour the best of Marlborough.
By establishing a digital presence that supports both seasonal retail surges and long-term brand equity, the website enables Caythorpe Family Estate to grow their direct-to-consumer market while strengthening the connection between their history and their customers.
